The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism through Fontur, so far in 2023, has invested 1,313 million in six projects of tourism competitiveness, territorial investment and strengthening of the promotion of the department.
The announcement was made by the general manager of Fontur, Álvaro Balcázar within the framework of the Tourist and Hotel Meeting of the Colombian East held in alliance with the Hotel and Tourism Association of Colombia –Cotelcoto strengthen the competitiveness of the actors in the value chain of the tourism sector in the region in the face of the opening of the Colombian-Venezuelan border.
According to Balcázar, these are four projects to improve tourism competitiveness in the department, for $1,219 million of competitiveness, which contemplate the improvement of environmental sustainability in MSME companies in the tourism sector, with priority on those owned by women and youth; the preparation and updating of inventories of tourist attractions and resources in the municipalities of Abrego, Durania, Bochalema and Arboledas and the implementation of a thematic tourist route that commemorates the historical events of the ‘Liberator Campaign’.
“Our main purpose is to strengthen the competitiveness of the actors in the tourism sector with the aim of achieving high quality standards“said the Fontur manager.
In addition, he added that, to make the tourist destinations of Norte de Santander visible, the department’s participation in Version 42 of the Anato 2023 Tourist Showcase and participation in the Colombia Travel Expo 2023 specialized tourism fair were leveraged.
In addition to this, the studies and designs for the construction of the Virgilio Barco Vargas Convention Center, in Villa del Rosario, were delivered. This project has been running since 2021, and will soon be ready for implementation.
